Do You Need a Lawyer in a Real Estate Transaction?

For real estate transactions in South New Jersey, do you need a lawyer?
Today I’ll discuss if you need a lawyer to represent you in a real estate transaction.
In North New Jersey, the entire transaction from contract to close is handled by an attorney. In South New Jersey, Realtors prepare the contract for sale. Title companies and lenders are involved in the whole process, but lawyers aren’t.
When do you need an attorney in South New Jersey? We have a three-day attorney review period. Once your contract is signed and delivered to all parties, you have three business days to get out of the agreement or amend it. An attorney can review it and make those changes.
Once you get past the three-day review period, the Realtor processes the transaction until closing. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you need legal advice, your Realtor will recommend getting an attorney involved.
If you have any questions or need a referral for a local attorney, reach out to me at jeff@thequintingroup.com or at (609) 398-5333. I look forward to hearing from you.
